Mobile Community Program

Sagebrush Smiles' Mobile Community Program operates a fully equipped dental van that provides free oral health education to underserved youth in Northern Nevada. By traveling to communities in need, Sagebrush Smiles raises awareness about the importance of children's oral health. Our mobile School-Based  Program includes a prevention team of Dentist and dental hygienists  who go to where children are most frequently—our public schools.

What Happens During a Mobile Dental Van Visit?

When children visit the dental van, they are warmly welcomed by friendly volunteers in a comforting environment designed to make the experience enjoyable. The visits feature interactive games and educational videos to entertain and inform children while they wait.

The mobile dental van is equipped with three full-sized dental chairs, allowing us to screen two children at a time efficiently. With parental or guardian consent, children and adolescents receive free dental screenings. If further care is needed, referrals to local dentists are provided.

After their screening, children receive educational materials, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and brushing instructions to encourage healthy oral hygiene habits at home.

Our unique mobile delivery model breaks down the common barriers that hinder a child from seeing a dental professional. Portable dental units on wheeled carts are transported into the school setting, which provides easy access to care and education while removing transportation barriers and lost school time.
